How to Keep Training When Your Motivation Is Low

Not feeling motivated every week is normal.

Some weeks you feel ready to train. Other weeks you are tired, busy, distracted, or simply not in the mood to think about exercise. That does not mean you have failed, and it does not mean you need to start again.

Often, it means you need a little more structure around your training.

Motivation can be helpful, but it is not always reliable. It changes with your energy, your schedule, your mood, your workload and everything else happening in your week. If your routine depends on feeling motivated every time, it can be easy for training to drop off.

That is where booking into a class can make a real difference.

A class gives you a set time, a planned session and a trainer to guide you through. It takes some of the thinking out of exercise, which can make it easier to show up, especially on the weeks where you might not have done it on your own.

"Do I feel like training today?" If the answer is "No", but you've already booked a class, you're more likely to go anyway!

Stop Waiting Until You Feel Motivated

A lot of people wait until they feel motivated before they train. The problem is that motivation can come and go.

If you only train when you feel ready, it becomes much easier to miss sessions when life gets busy or your energy is low. Booking into a class gives you a plan before motivation has a chance to talk you out of it.

You know where you need to be, what time you need to arrive and that there is a session waiting for you. That small bit of structure can be enough to help you get through the door.

Take the Decision-Making Out of Training

One of the hardest parts of exercising on your own is deciding what to do.

You may find yourself wondering which exercises to choose, how many sets to complete, how long to train for, or whether you are doing the right things for your body and goals. When motivation is low, those decisions can feel like another reason to put it off.

In a class, the session is already planned.

You walk in, your trainer guides you through the workout, and you can focus on moving rather than trying to figure everything out on your own. Whether it is Reformer Pilates, strength training, boxing, mat Pilates or a fitness class, the structure is already there for you to follow.

That is one of the biggest benefits of group fitness classes. You do not have to plan the session. You just have to show up.

Make Training Part of Your Week

Low motivation is easier to manage when training has a regular place in your schedule.

Choosing a few classes that work with your week can make exercise feel more manageable. It might be a Monday morning Reformer Pilates class, a Wednesday evening fitness session, or a Saturday class to finish the week.

It does not need to be complicated. The aim is to find times that suit your life and book them in before the week gets too full.

The more familiar your routine becomes, the less you have to think about it. Instead of asking, “Do I feel like training today?”, you already know what is booked. That helps training become part of your week, rather than another decision you need to make from scratch.

Your trainer will guide you. You just need to show up. No thinking required!

Let the Trainer Guide You

A good class is not just a workout written on a board.

Your trainer is there to guide the session, explain the movements, support your technique and help you work at the right level. That matters, especially on the days when you feel flat, unsure or out of routine.

You do not need to walk in knowing exactly what to do. Your trainer will talk you through the session, help you adjust where needed, and keep the class moving.

That support can make training feel much more manageable. It also helps you move safely and with more confidence, which is important whether you are new to exercise, returning after time away, or trying to build consistency.

Use the Group to Help You Show Up

Training around other people can help more than you might expect.

Familiar faces, a bit of encouragement and people working hard beside you can make a session feel easier to get through. You do not need to be loud or outgoing for the group energy to make a difference.

Sometimes simply being in the room with other people helps you keep going.

Group fitness classes can also make training feel more enjoyable and less like something you have to push through on your own. Over time, those small moments of connection can make it easier to keep coming back.

Our classes are intentionally built so that you don't get bored! You never do the same routine twice.

Keep Training Interesting

Another reason motivation drops is boredom.

If every session feels the same, it can be harder to stay engaged. Variety matters, especially if you are trying to build a routine you can stick with long term.

At Incline Body & Wellness, our classes are intentionally programmed and never the same. You still get structure and guidance, but the sessions stay varied so your body and mind have something to work with.

That variety helps keep training interesting while still supporting strength, fitness, control and confidence over time.

Start With What Feels Realistic

You do not need to overhaul your whole routine to get started.

Begin with a few sessions that fit your week. Book them in, put them in your diary and treat them like part of your schedule.

The goal is not to rely on motivation every day. The goal is to make training easier to come back to, even on the weeks where you feel tired, busy or less motivated than usual.

Classes can help because the plan is already there. You walk in, the session is ready, your trainer is there, and the group helps you keep going.
